چکیده

The quenching rate constant of the triplet state by molecular oxygen and the efficiency of singlet oxygen generation have been measured for 12 amines in cyclohexane and benzene. For the best electron donors, the average rate constant for quenching by energy transfer is 6.0 × 109 M-1 s-1. For the same compounds, the rate constant of quenching via enchancement of internal conversion is 1.2 × 1010 M-1 s-1. The energy transfer component of the total quenching rate constant is almost twice as fast as the maximum from the standard Porter model. The mechanisms of quenching via quintet, singlet, and triplet channels are discussed for amines and aromatic hydrocarbons, and intersystem crossing out of the quintet manifold is proposed.

Studies on the Charge-Transfer Interaction Between Tamoxifen Citrate and Chloranilic Acid

The complex formed as a consequence of the interaction between the electron-acceptor P-chloranilic acid and an electron donor tamoxifen citrate was employed in the assay of the drug in pure powder and tablets. Chloranilic acid was found to form a charge-transfer complex in a 1:1 stoichiometric ratio, with tamoxifen citrate. The wavelength of maximum absorption for the complex was found to...

Type I and Type II Photosensitized Oxidation Reactions: Guidelines and Mechanistic Pathways.

Here, 10 guidelines are presented for a standardized definition of type I and type II photosensitized oxidation reactions. Because of varied notions of reactions mediated by photosensitizers, a checklist of recommendations is provided for their definitions. Type I and type II photoreactions are oxygen-dependent and involve unstable species such as the initial formation of radical cation or neut...

Excited singlet molecular O2 (1Δg) is generated enzymatically from excited carbonyls in the dark

In mammalian tissues, ultraweak chemiluminescence arising from biomolecule oxidation has been attributed to the radiative deactivation of singlet molecular oxygen [O2 ((1)Δg)] and electronically excited triplet carbonyl products involving dioxetane intermediates. Herein, we describe evidence of the generation of O2 ((1)Δg) in aqueous solution via energy transfer from excited triplet acetone. Th...

Refining the reaction mechanism of O2 towards its co-substrate in cofactor-free dioxygenases

Cofactor-less oxygenases perform challenging catalytic reactions between singlet co-substrates and triplet oxygen, in spite of apparently violating the spin-conservation rule. In 1-H-3-hydroxy-4-oxoquinaldine-2,4-dioxygenase, the active site has been suggested by quantum chemical computations to fine tune triplet oxygen reactivity, allowing it to interact rapidly with its singlet substrate with...
